Mrs. Schwartz's Acceptance Speech
Morley School received the WELLS FARGO GOLD STAR SCHOOL AWARD May 2005
The GOLD STAR SCHOOL AWARD was presented to Morley by Mr. Roger Larson-Wells Fargo and initiator of the award ten years ago, and Dr. Marilyn Moore, Associate Superintendent for Instruction. In an acceptance speech to Mr. Larson, Dr. Moore and Wells Fargo were thanked for the gift of this distinguished Wells Fargo Gold Star School Award, with great feeling of honor and gratitude, for our professional improvement and increased student achievement.
"Having the privilege of being the principal at Morley, I can safely say that the GOLD STAR SCHOOL AWARD aligns with our passion for excellence. When I think of Morley School, it can be compared to a geode, a rock, created by a combination of forces. A geode is a rock with a small cavity inside, lined with sparking crystals. On the outside it is just there.
Morley is a school tucked away in a wonderful neighborhood. If you passed by it, you might not give it much attention. And, a geode is just there, a rock, perhaps, on the ground. You might notice it, if you meandered by, or you might not pay much attention to it.
Like a geode, however, there are lots of sparking things going on inside of Morley School. To find the "essence" in either, you have to open it up, look inside, examine what's there, preserve its brilliance, polish it more, and with constant motion, move it towards a light to see it illuminate with brightness. That creates extraordinary sparkle, and..that is what Morley is about!" Coni J. Schwartz, Principal
All representing Morley-Parent Partners, Morley's PTO Board, Gold Star student, Justine Boucher, Food Services Team, Office Team, Custodial Services Team, ParaProfessional Team, and the Professional Instruction Team, were on the stage at the Pershing Center, with an audience of 1100 guests, to accept the award. This is truly a Morley family!
To conclude the award acceptance, and to emphasize our essence with music, Renee and Mick Kovar, composers of our own MORLEY SCHOOL SONG, shared our school song with all.
