A CHIRP OF KNOWLEDGE “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots; the other, wings.” Hodding Carter (1902-72) American Journalist

Giving our students roots and wings, is what we are about at Morley. Of course, we realize that they grow these on their own too, once the stage is set. For our children to socially, emotionally, physically, and academically grow, is a responsibility that we all should welcome and embrace.

The Morley staff, is looking forward to sharing our students’ growth with each and every parent and family. We hope that you, too, are anxious to hear and share information at our upcoming parent teacher conference times. Like our first quarter conferences, we know we will reach nearly 100 percent participation.

STUDENTS Each one of our students shine in so many ways. Below, is a picture of third grade student Sadie F., as she shares her writing of WHERE I’M FROM.

I’m from blooming buds in Springtime

And sprinting through sprinklers.

I’m from stories coming to life

And stage lights in my eyes.

I’m from music telling meaningful tales

And pictures showing many feelings.

I’m from moving with grace and beauty

And competing with strength and power.

Mostly, I’m from happiness of family and joys of life.

Writing….One of many talents from Sadie’s ‘roots and wings!’

WHERE I AM FROM

ROBIN S. AND TIENYE C., recently earned first place and runner-up in the SCHOOL WIDE GEOGRAPHIC BEE! Robin is our first place winner and Tienye, our runner-up. Both Robin and Tienye are fifth grade students and are the best friends and ‘cheerleaders’ for each other. They studied together and celebrated their excellence, as a team.

We are so proud of our students’ efforts and academic persistence to do their very best!

MORLEY WINNERS IN THE CRAIG LOECK TRAIN ESSAY CONTEST. Recently, four Morley students placed, either first or second, in the Craig Loeck Train Essay Contest. Fifth grade student KELSI R. (left) placed first at her grade level, and MARIT K. placed second at the fifth grade level.

Kelsi with her parents.

Marit with her grandmother and mother.

At the fourth grade level, JENNY P. placed first.

Jenny with her parents.

At the third grade level, CHLOE C. PLACED FIRST. We are so proud of these students, and the excellent writing essays created by each. These students were awarded Lionel Train sets, special t-shorts, and cash prizes. We thank the Loeck family for sponsoring such an academically rich activity for the 13th year!

To the right, Chloe C., third grade first place winner, shares her essay with all third, fourth, and fifth grade students, while Mr. and Mrs. Craig Loeck, sponsors of the Train Essay Contest, look on.

Again, congratulations to Chloe, Jenny, Kelsi, and Marit on their fine writing skills and recognition.
