MARCH CALENDAR INCLUDED!

Please remember that all of next week is Spring Break. There is no school for students. School resumes on Monday, March 19. Have a safe, restful break and curl yourself around some of those wonderful Book Fair books!

A CHIRP OF KNOWLEDGE..
“The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”
Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) Medical missionary, Philosopher

Principal’s Journal..As we end this week, one so full of activities celebrating families and teachers, I am reminded of the rich and deep service of so many at Morley. Our children were instrumental in recognizing teachers’ gifts, by using their own academic gifts of the mind and soul. We have taken time to say “Thank You” to teachers and our children and parents were a part of that salute.

We have, also, had one of the most successful PTO Sponsored Scholastic Book Fairs ever, along with a huge Waffleman Supper turnout. Students and adults, alike, have been saturated in literary delight. The flavor of the Book Fair was as sweet as the flavor of our waffles with gourmet syrup! Everyone came together, in joy and happiness, as they sought and found how to serve others.

Ffifth grader Jordan A. selects a “good read” at the book fair. Mrs. Lynne Lehms, parent of Hailey and PTO Book Fair volunteer, helps with selling books.

On behalf of all, I would like to thank Mrs. Barbara Clegg and Mrs. Renee Burchell for co-chairing the Spring Book Fair and spending hours and hours for the success of this rich literary event.

Waffleman Doug McCallum, prepares a waffle for Mr. Clegg, father of Ashley and Shane. “It looks like both are having a very good time!”

Shane and Ashley, along with other Morley Meadowlarks, select ‘just the right kind of syrup for their waffles!

Miss Udell plays for all at the Waffleman Supper, to add more flavor to the already tasty night of food, fellowship, and fun with our Morley families! Thanks to Miss Udell, Chair Heather Ingracia, and all of the wonderful volunteers who made our night a very special one!

STUDENTS Several students reached for excellence in many ways, during the past few weeks.

Braden K., fourth grader, proudly poses with his top entry to the National Handwriting Contest. Braden’s handwriting entry was selected to represent Morley in the National Handwriting Contest.

Also, during this week, we found out that fifth grade student, Robin S., qualified to represent Morley, and participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee. Robin will participate in the state bee on March 30. We are so proud of you, Robin! Robin is pictured with mentors Mrs. Horst and Mrs. Griesen. Thank you mentors, and good luck Robin!

Lee Booksellers named their short-story contest winners of its annual short story contest for children. Runners-up and Honorable Mention winners from Morley were Robin S. and Sadie F.

What does a Morley Meadowlark do on a snow day? Well, he builds a castle, of course! Fourth grade student, Kai F. worked with his family and grandparents, to create a beautiful castle out of sugar cubes. Kai had studied Shakespearean theatre and plays, and was inspired by these works. Kai was, also, intrigued by the English architecture including the structure of the Globe Theatre, how plays were advertised on banners during that period of time, etc. So, Kai laboriously worked to build a castle out of sugar cubes, painting each cube gray. To the right, you can see this beautiful structure, and how proud Kai is of his creation!

So, what can you do during the Spring break? You might want to do some research and…even build a castle!
