A Chirp of Knowledge… “Intelligence plus character..that is the goal of true education.” Martin Luther King (1929-1968)

STUDENTS...James came to my office to share his composition, “Where I’m From.” James was proud that he wrote this profound piece, reflecting his life, in fifteen minutes. I was left speechless with the depth of the words, and the added commentary by James. James is in Mrs. Sell’s third grade class. He wanted to share his creation in the newsletter. I know that you, too, will find that writing is a gift of James.

WHERE I’M FROM by James H.
I’m from the joys of my life. I’m from the sadness from my relatives’ deaths. I’m from the fun from my brother and sister. I’m from the world and the many sights I have seen. I’m from the struggles of keeping others in line. I’m from the joy of seeing those far away. But what I’m mostly made of is my family and the happiness surrounding it.

TEACHERS…It was Logan K’s “Top Banana” week, a week in Mrs. Lackey’s second grade, when the personal focus as the ‘top banana’ comes alive with things and memories brought by that child. One of the experiences and personal interests that Logan brought to school surrounded his love for “go carting.” To make this interest come alive, Mr. Kubik was gracious enough to take the time to bring Logan’s go cart to school, so Logan could tell about it and demonstrate his skills in driving this neat little cart.

Logan extended an invitation to his teacher, Mrs. Lackey, to ride his go cart. Along with instructions from Mr. Kubik, Mrs. Lackey took the challenge and did a superb job of mastering ‘go cart’ riding. (A side note…Mrs. Schwartz, also, was invited to experience her driving skills and, fortunately drove the go cart without wrecking it!)
Thanks, Logan, brother Riley, and Mr. Kubik, for sharing “Top Banana” interests!

Mr. Kubik gives instructions to Mrs. Lackey prior to her “Top Banana” experience, as requested by Logan.
Logan demonstrates how to drive his go cart, while his twin brother, Riley, also a student in Mrs. Lackey’s room, looks on.

What a great way to get to know our families beyond the academic classroom!

MRS. JULIE BRANDON, fourth and fifth grade chorus and ORFF students held a very special winter program last Tuesday evening. FIVE GOLDEN RINGS was performed with great fun and talent. It was a delightful program, so enjoyed and well attended by our many families and friends. We so appreciate the gifts shared by our students and Mrs. Brandon, along with the tremendous support from Morley families for music in our schools!

To the right, Sydney, Rikki, Shayna, Jordan and Denise, along with other performers, share their ‘kazoo’ tune, in the program Five Golden Rings.

THANKS TO MISS RICKER AND MRS. PETERSON FOR SPONSORING THE RECENT HOOP SHOOT FOR THIRD THROUGH FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS! On Thursday, December 14, several students came to school early to participate in the annual Hoop Shoot. Winners are Christopher S– third grade, Allison K– third grade, Ben S– fourth grade, and Jordan A– fifth grade. Congratuations to these students, who will get to go on to the next round of competition, held at East High School, in January.

COORDINATOR MR. KEVIN NAUMANN, ARRANGED FOR TWO PLAYERS FROM THE UNL GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TEAM to spend a short time with our fifth grade students. Miss Jelena Spiric from Serbia and Miss Kelsey Griffin from Alaska, shared words about wellness, academics, homework and practice. As a result of their visit, our fifth grade students, as well as Morley School, received free tickets to the December 16 game at the Devaney Center.

Pictured: Mr. Naumann, UNL Girls Basketball player Jelena Spiric, Fifth grade student Kess Packett, UNL Girls Basketball player Kelsey Griffin, and Mrs. Streeter enjoy time together learning about the balance of excellence.

TRAFFIC – A huge thank you to all of those who are helping with our one way traffic pattern and safety rules. There is a significant difference for all!

THE MITTEN TREE AND OTHER GENEROUS GIVING THIS TIME OF YEAR
– I, also, wish to thank each of you, including our Brownies, for contributing so much for our Mitten Tree and other gifts, to give to those less fortunate. It is heartwarming to realize this level of care and modeling of kindness for others.

Morley Traffic Pattern...Easy as 1, 2, 3...

One Way Traffiic Pattern for Drop-off and Pick-up of Students at Morley School

1. Traffic will flow one way (from east to west) in front of the school, turning south at Pacific Street.

2. Staff parking lots are for staff parking ONLY!

3. Curb cutouts are for pickup/dropoff - don't leave your car unattended!

4. If there is no room in cutouts, please circle around.

5. Don't block driving lanes or double park!

6. We encourage the use of alternate areas for pickup/dropoff - away from the front of school!

7. Use crosswalks only - it sets a good example.

8. Carpooling is always a good idea!

Our Goal is to be safe, courteous, and efficient!
