There's MORE to learning at MORLEY!

December 8, 2006

A Chirp of Knowledge…"Set a moral compass, a sense of ethical direction in all we undertake."

STUDENTS...Celebrating the season, second grade students embraced gingerbread house making with great creativity and delight. All were proud of their architecture, as well as spending time with special guests. Thank you, parents and volunteers, for supporting this special event of our December activities. I did see a few pieces of “building material”, i.e. gum drops, cinnamon bears, and licorice being tasted by big and little learners!

Hunter is delighted with his beautifully crafted gingerbread house. Well done, Hunter!
Aaron E and his father proudly pose by Aaron’s gingerbread house. Teamwork at its best!

TEACHERS…This past Wednesday, Mrs. Ruth Colwell, Morley’s instrumental and strings specialist, directed our students in a most elegant and beautiful Winter Warming Program for parents, grandparents and others to enjoy. In just a few months, the musical expertise and ‘gifts’ from Mrs. Colwell, seems to magically travel from Mrs. Colwell to each and every student!

Bradon K and Lucas C, along with other students, shared their musical talent!
Meredith M and Megan C play lovely selections on their violins.

THE MORLEY MITTEN TREE
Each year, Morley has a mitten tree in the front hallway. This is a tree on which we hang donations of mittens, caps, scarves, socks, and the like. If you would like to give a gift of warmth for the children at the Lincoln City Mission, please bring an item or more and hang it on the tree. This year, also, we are taking donations of needed personal items – soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and the like, and have a box in which these items may be placed. On December 22, “Santa Schwartz”, along with some “elves”, will take the items, on behalf of all Morley Meadowlarks, to the Lincoln City Mission. Thank you for giving to others this time of year.

To the left, Emily D and Ashley C, both students in Miss Gross’s room, are looking over our mitten tree.

WE HAVE DEVELOPED A TRAFFIC CRISIS IN FRONT OF MORLEY SCHOOL!
I am including the one way traffic pattern for drop-off and pick-up of students at Morley School, along with recommendation for parking, etc. PLEASE DO YOUR BEST TO FOLLOW THESE RULES, FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL. We must own and correct this problem, so that our children and families are safe. Thank you.

One Way Traffiic Pattern for Drop-off and Pick-up of Students at Morley School

1. Traffic will flow one way (from east to west) in front of the school, turning south at Pacific Street. Only daycare vans will utilize the area on the north side of Monterey Drive berween Pacific Street and E. Bermuda Drive.

2. There will be NO loading or unloading on the south side of Monterey Drive in front of the school. This is a "NO PARKING" area.

3. Utilize alternate areas for pick-up/drop-off such as Sumner Street, East Bermuda Drive, the east side of 70th Street at arrival and dismissal times. Also, as students are dismissed in the afternoon, a staff member supervises the Monerey and E. Bermuda crosswalk. This supervision is provided when crossing streets, and should give parents more confidence regarding their child's safety.

5. Carpooling with other families reduces the number of cars at arrival and dismissal times. WE ENCOURAGE CARPOOLING!
