FEBRUARY EVENTS INCLUDED at the end of the
newsletter Remember...No School on Monday, February 19 - PRESIDENT'S DAY A CHIRP OF KNOWLEDGE "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong." George Washington Carver (1864-1943) American agricultural scientist
Part of our assembly included Kokyo Taiko Drummers from the Asian Center. We are so thankful for a donation from one of our families, so that we could experience the drummers, a part of the Chinese New Year celebration. We did learn from Madam Chiung-Yun Chen, Principal of Minglun School, that they, also, have a Chinese drum band. We will send them a copy of our assembly and include the drummers performing at Morley. Some Morley students will be helping and sharing during the assembly. To the right, is a picture of Tienye, fifth grader and Annie, first grader, who will be wearing attire indicative of that worn during the festive Chinese New Year celebrations. Aren't they beautiful?
SPECIAL SIR by Mei Grace B, Third Grade He has no home, so he came to our house. He is gray and white with a ragged ear. He is so shy he won't come near… he darts away. We feed him in the bitter cold when we can see our breath..when it's so cold he twitches his paws in the icy white snow. Sometimes it does not seem fair that we have warm shelter and he does not. Maybe being kind to him will help him feel happy and warm.
A few years ago, I built the best snowman ever? I was worried about
what could happen to it. I looked out my window, and I couldn't
believe what I saw! My snowman was walking (Well, more hopping than
walking) out of my own front yard! I ran outside as fast as I
could. "Okay, kid, you discovered the secret that we snowmen have.
I might as well show you what snowmen do at night." The first thing, he said, that snowmen do at night is to make more snowmen, and to add snow to themselves! We love to look big and strong.”Since there really wasn't anything for me to do while the snowmen were adding snow to themselves, I just watched in wonder. It looked difficult, though, packing the snow on themselves with just their stubbly little tree branch arms! Well, Adam's creative story goes on into the night, with the best snowball fight ever, and sledding from the highest hill. You'll have to ask Adam for the rest of the story, or create your own ending! To the right, however, is Adam's snowman named Abe! Well done, Adam! OUR MORLEY STUDENTS ARE ALSO CONSCIENTIOUS ABOUT The Morley Spirit Team members, recycle paper, on a weekly basis. As evidenced by all the blue recycling containers in each classroom and the lunchroom, you can see these conscientious citizens taking the responsibility to recycle, emptying the blue classroom containers, into the larger blue dumpsters. We thank these Spirit Team members for carrying through with such an important objective. Their character, and our recycling efforts, really count.
