“When we take others under our wing, we grow as well.”
PRINCIPAL’S JOURNAL…The last two weeks have reminded
me of a Morley “horn of plenty.” We have enjoyed the richness
of involvement by parents, volunteers, grandparents, high school and
university students, VIPs, and other friends of Morley! How very, very
rewarding in my eyes, and, more importantly, how very rewarding for
our children. On behalf of the instructional staff, I wish to extend
appreciation to all during our American Education Week celebration.
We have so much for which to be thankful, along with our heartfelt thanks
for our ancestors and America. Make it a Thanksgiving tradition to remember
the past, express gratitude for the blessings of today, and peace for
the future.

Mr. Greco and Mr. Naumann are ready to ‘spice
up the chili’ at our “Thank you” chili supper
Wednesday evening. |
Fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Evelyn Campbell
and Secretary Mrs. Kathy Weins, just had to sample that food before
it was served! “MMMMmmm, those rolls are so delicious!!”
|
OUR CHILI SUPPER WAS A SUCCESS! Teachers and the Morley
staff served over 500 bowls of chili to our children and their families
on Thursday night at our “Book Fair, Chili Supper, Art Display,
and Picture Retake” night. We appreciate each and every child,
parent, PTO members, and all who support excellence in education at
Morley School!

The “Queen of Chili Suppers”, Kathleen Morris,
prepares carrots (without cutting one finger!) for the twelfth
annual Chili Supper at Morley.
THANK YOU QUEEN KATHLEEN!
|
Volunteer Mike Niemeyer and father of Lauren,
shared his smile with all of us, while washing hundreds of trays!
|
 |
 |
Morley’s Food Zone manager, Karri Busboom,
worked all day stirring that chili and helping all of us to ‘do
it right!’

Student Jackson Giles and friend anticipating
the chili supper, listening to music provided by first grade teacher,
Miss Udell, and celebrating American Education Week at
Morley. |
Without parents and volunteers, with joy and kindness in their hearts
for Morley, the chili supper and so many other activities, simply could
not happen! For all of the hard work and involvement, we are so thankful!
We, also, want to be sure we thank our corporate partners – Taco
Inn and Russ’s Market at 70th and Van Dorn. Taco Inn provided
the delicious ranch dip and Russ’s donated the chili crackers.
If you enjoyed the big yummy cinnamon rolls, you might wish to visit
the Grain Bin! We are so blessed to have so many people and businesses
that support education and the many activities that revolve around the
world of children and families.
I want to thank our Spirit Team and their sponsors, Mrs. Cheryl Lambert
and Mrs. Marci Smith, for helping at the Chili Supper and sponsoring
a Lincoln Food Bank Food Drive. These students work so hard to promote
our spirit, citizenship, and school activities!
PTO BOOK FAIR
Hard at work, ordering more books, selling books, and shopping for books
are Book Fair Co-Chair Mrs. Laurie Petty – mother of Jessica and
Alex, along with Mrs. Michelle Buckwalter – parent volunteer and
mother of Andrew and Benjamin, and Andrew. What a successful Book Fair
it has been! Thank you to all of the volunteers, and a special thank
you to Co-Chairs Mrs. Petty and Mrs. Claudia Messineo – mother
of Julia and Sophia, for all of the time, organization, care, and support
for ‘putting books in the hands’ of our children, parents,
and staff at Morley. We love the Book Fair and all that has been done
to make it happen in such a successful way! We are so thankful for our
PTO and parent volunteers.

BOOK
FAIR BREAKFAST
On Friday, November 10, the Morley staff was treated to a delicious breakfast
to ‘kick-off’ our PTO sponsored Book Fair. Pictured are Mrs.
Anne Crimmins – mother of Sean, Mrs. Claudia Messineo – mother
of Julia and Sophia and Book Fair Co-Chair, Mrs. Laurie Petty –
mother of Jessica and Alex and Book Fair Co-Chair, Mrs. Dee Albers –
Resource Teacher and Mrs. Vicki Fisher – mother of Sadie and PTO
President. Not only did we have a great breakfast prepared by our parents,
we heard about the Reading Rain Forest “Wild For Books!” theme,
book bingo, how to request classroom books, and what to anticipate in
the upcoming Book Fair! A big thank you, also, to a master baker, Mr.
Ingarcia – father of Nathan and Rose – for baking us some
yummy rolls!
WOW! THE POWER OF READING! The power of reading is so
alive at Morley!
HARVEST OF BOOKS – Thanks to the Lincoln Education Association and
many donors, along with bookstores and the city libraries, all first and
second grade students will receive books next week. We are so thankful
for the gift of reading, and all that others do to promote literacy for
our children..
DID YOU KNOW…And speaking of reading, did you know that last summer,
19 Morley kindergarten students, 45 first graders, 36 second grade students,
38 third grade students, 24 fourth grade students and seventeen fifth
grade students participated in the Lincoln City Libraries reading program?
This is a strong confirmation that Morley students love to read all year
long!
ART DISPLAY
We had a most beautiful display of art by Morley students under the
instruction of Mrs. Cheryl Kupcinski, Morley’s Art Specialist.
We so enjoy and appreciate our students beautiful work that was displayed
during our American Education Week. To the right, Mrs. Morris and Mrs.
Kupcinski admire and celebrate the work of our students!
FUND-a-NEED LPS FOUNDATION…
Did you know there was a wish list for schools on the LPS website? Look
up LPS.org and click on Fund-a-need. Morley has entered a request to
be funded for a wellness project. Today, we hear about so many children
having health problems that previous generations did not experience.
Much of this has been attributed to the lack of vigorous exercise. Did
you know that the recommendation for school age children is to exercise
60 minutes daily? There is a new heart monitor(easy to use) that is
worn as a watch, and will measure a student's heart rate. All they have
to do is put their two fingers on the metal rings and they can read
their heart rate in beats per minute. This will tell the students if
they are exercising within their target heart rate range. Morley's request
is for 15 watches so that 1/2 of the class can use them during a PE
class. These Fund-a-need requests can be funded by individuals, or businesses-take
a peek, as there are many wishes on the web site.
