Academic Support, including Literacy Support, is extraordinary at Morley. Miss Kay Monson, coordinates academic support, in one of her many roles and responsibilities at Morley.
Since the beginning of the 2000-2001 school year, we have been fortunate to have a new program in place at Morley-The Literacy Team. With fewer classes, three of our Morley specialists had an extra half period in their day. It was decided to use that time by turning our music, P.E. and computer teachers into reading and math specialists to join the part-time literacy staff member and form The Literacy Team.
The team's job is to:
- work with second graders who haven't yet become proficient in reading, giving them an extra opportunity each day to receive
additional reading instruction - help first graders who are having difficulty learning to read by reinforcing the material being taught in the classroom
- work with other students in third through fifth grade who are still struggling with decoding and/or comprehension.
