Art lesson in grade 5...Around the world, mask making reflects the multicultural origins of this art form. Whether used in celebrations, as a means of disguise, or protection, the purpose of a mask was to transform the individual wearing it. Fifth grade students viewed masks from around the world before designing their own masks. They considered shape and line designs when painting the masks. The final embellishments of glitter, feathers and raffia added texture to the mood and appearance they created.
