SCIP

The acronym SCIP stands for School and Community Intervention Program. Our mission statement is as follows: To provide a process of identification, screening, referral, and support of students experiencing problems which interferes with learning, possibly related with alcohol and other drugs, but not limited to substance use/abuse.

Referrals for mental, social, emotional, and physical health evaluations are at no cost if SCIP initiated. However, if the evaluation shows a need for follow-up treatment, the treatment is paid for by the parents or parents' insurance.

Morley's SCIP Team also promotes a drug-free life style for students. In October, during RED RIBBON WEEK, there are many awareness activities held for the students which are sponsored by the SCIP Team. Teachers may obtain materials for their substance abuse curriculum units in Health class from the SCIP Team. Parents may also request information.

Some of the specific programs the SCIP team has sponsored this year are:

* A presentation by Sara Wolter for the staff (in August) on "new drugs and paraphernalia"
* Red Ribbon Week (Assembly, banners, pencils for students, end of the day drug-free messages)
* Material available for parents at Parent-Teacher Conference Nights
* Monthly information sheets given out about various alcohol/drug/eating disorders
* Videos on bullying and self-esteem
