Morley's Spirit Team consists of two responsible students per classroom (Grades 2-5) who have a great attitude and are willing to help others! Spirit Team is similar to a high school Student Council. This is an opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, make new friends, and help their classmates at Morley School.
Sponsors: Mrs. Smith (grade 3 teacher) and Mrs. Lambert (computer teacher)
Spirit Team members attend a monthly meeing plus work on special projects throughout the school year.
Meetings are scheduled one morning each month at 8:30 in Mrs. Smith's room at Abbott.
2009-10 Schedule
Check back September 4 for this year's dates.
(Special meetings may be called as needed.)
Some of the projects Spirit Team members work on include:
* A pencil/eraser/grip sale held every December (Members spend the money earned for projects which will benefit all students at Morley School).
* An ongoing recycling project with every classroom involved. We recycle paper, cardboard, newspapers, magazines, tin cans, aluminum cans, and glass products.
* Volunteering to help at the Chili Supper held at Morley every November
* Collecting food donations at Thanksgiving for the Food Pantry and during the annual spring food drive for the Lincoln Food Bank. (Last year, Morley students collected over 600 pounds of food!!!) Morley families are very generous!
* During the spring food drive, we worked with East High DECA members to gather food for the Food Bank.
* Decorating lunch sacks for the MEALS ON WHEELS program
* Purchasing treats for Morley's annual Field Day in May
* Making signs for Morley hallways and classrooms as reminders of upcoming school events
* Communicating and reporting to each classroom about ideas and events related to Spirit Team
In the past, Spirit Team has sponsored the following activities:
* Helping with tsunami relief by collecting money
* Sponsoring a Penny-Nickel-Dime-Quarter collection to be given to The American Red Cross for hurricane victims in the southeast. It is through these acts of caring, that our teachers and students demonstrate their character and care for others.
* A recycling project of collecting used cartridges from inkjet printers and laser printers. (This project is now sponsored by the PTO.)
Spirit Team members voted to buy headphones for the Computer Lab, an educational math computer game for the whole school, and new pillars for our CHARACTER COUNTS display in the main hallway with some of the proceeds from the Pencil/Eraser sale and Y*Ties sale!
