The following will explain the functions of each committee...
Book Exchange: Late in the school year, PTO hosts a "book exchange" allowing students to bring books from home they are no longer interested in and exchange them for new books. The book exchange is open during the lunch hour and after school for two days during the last week of school.
Book Fair (Fall and Spring): Morley hosts one Book Fair in November and another in March. Promotional materials go out the week before the Book Fair. Co-chairs work with Scholastic to get the books here, displays set up, information to teachers about the books, etc. Co-chairs are responsible for setting up the Book Fair and making sure it is staffed for each shift (a list of volunteers will be provided), as well as packing things away after the Book Fair. Also, they work with Scholastic and the PTO Treasurer to handle the financial side of the Book Fair.
Campbells Labels: This chair will collect Campbell's labels donated by families, get them sent in, and post information on how many labels have been donated.
Chili Supper: The Chili Supper is held in conjunction with the Fall Book Fair. Kathleen Morris (executive secretary) coordinates this event with help from staff volunteers.
Family Fun Night: The Family Fun Night Co-chairs are responsible for planning a theme, activities, games, and a meal for Morley's Family Fun Night to be held in the fall. The co-chairs will receive a list of volunteers who can be contacted to help with Fun Night.
Field Day: The Field Day Chair works with Miss Ricker to coordinate volunteers for the day's events which is held in May. A list of volunteers will be provided, or a mailing for volunteers can be sent home with students.
Fifth Grade Activities: A group of parents work with the fifth grade class to raise funds for their end of the year activities. In addition, the co-chairs will plan an end of the year event (typically, fifth graders spend a day at Camp Kitaki) and plan a recognition dinner at school at the end of the year.
General Mills Labels: This Chair will collect all of the General Mills labels donated by families, get them sent in, and post information on how many labels have been donated.
Leaps and Bounds: Leaps and Bounds Chair will pick up books that children have written in class (from a central drop off point), laminate the book covers, bind the books in the workroom, and return the finished books to the author.
Library Assistant Coordinator: The Coordinator will work with Mrs. Millard to make sure the Media Center is appropriately staffed with volunteers. A list of potential volunteers will be provided.
Mini Classes: The co-chairs of this committee will send out a letter to parents in December asking them to volunteer to teach a mini-class (offered in various areas and lasting either one or two sessions after school). Classes will be scheduled in February and March, and the co-chairs are responsible for advertising and registration for the classes.
Outdoor Gardens: The Outdoor Gardens Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance, watering, and planting of the butterfly garden and the Coni J. Schwartz Garden on the Morley campus. The coordinator also maintains the flower and shrub areas on the school grounds.
Plant Sales: The Plant Sales co-chairs work with a nursery to determine plants to be offered for sale to Morley families. They send out information on plant sales, take orders, and coordinate pick up from the nursery and delivery back to Morley. Families pick up the plants they purchased at Morley. Plant sales occur in the spring, and a list of volunteers to help with delivery will be given to the co-chairs.
PTO Directory: This Chair will compile a directory of all Morley families and will also include PTO calendar information, a list of students in each homeroom, etc. The goal is to get the directory out as soon as possible in the fall.
PTO Membership: This Chair staffs a table at Open House in August and registers families for PTO. Once PTO registration is complete, the Chair gives the list of members to the Directory Chair. The work for this committee is completed early in the school year.
QSP Magazine Sales: QSP is our biggest fund raiser of the year. The co-chairs work with QSP to get information out to our students (both in an assembly and via information sent home), verify the accuracy of all orders, and coordinate distribution of products back to families. QSP is a big job, and it occurs in October.
Room Parent Coordinator: Room Parent Coordinators will receive a list of parents interested in serving as Homeroom Parents. They will assign each homeroom a room parent and conduct meetings to plan both the fall and the Valentine classroom parties. More information will be available in the fall about signing up to be a Homeroom Parent.
School Pictures: The School Picture Coordinator is responsible for setting up the photographer for individual and class pictures as well as retakes. The Coordinator gets information out to families, collects payment for pictures, and is at school on Picture Day to coordinate activities. When pictures are in, this person distributes them. The coordinator will receive a list of volunteers who can be contacted for additional help. School pictures occur in the fall.
Staff Appreciation: The Staff Appreciation co-chairs are in charge of teacher dinners on the nights of Parent Teacher conferences as well as providing the Morley staff with various gifts of appreciation throughout the year. The co-chairs will receive a list of volunteers to help with this committee.
Waffleman Night: Waffleman Dinner occurs in conjunction with the Spring Book Fair. The chair of this event is responsible for ensuring there are enough volunteers to help with the set-up, the meal, and the clean-up after the event. A list of volunteers will be given to the chair.
Welcome Committee: These co-chairs are responsible for the coffee held for parents on the first day of school.
Yearbook Committee: The co-chairs of this committee are responsible for creating the Morley Yearbook...getting pictures from various classes, Morley events, and from individual families, and then producing a wonderful yearbook! Additionally, these co-chairs are responsible for giving families information on ordering yearbooks and getting deposit money to the PTO treasurer.
